Dear Mayor Scotto:
Recently, Google, Inc. introduced plans to build and test ultra high-speed broadband networks in a small number of trial locations across the United States. Once online, these networks would offer internet speeds of up to 1 gigbit per second, or more than 100 times faster than what most Americans have access to today.
I have already nominated Torrance for this program as a resident, but there is an option to provide a submission directly from the City. I am writing to urge you to consider having Torrance answer Google’s Request for Information (RFI) and allow our city to reap the benefits of this initiative, if chosen. The deadline to submit this RFI is March 26th, 2010.
If Torrance was ultimately selected, not only would it benefit our residents who would get faster internet speeds, but it would also create jobs and attract more businesses to the city.
To find more information about Google’s plans and answer the RFI, please visit http://www.google.com/appserve/fiberrfi Alternatively, please feel free to contact me at any time and I will be glad to help in any way I can.
