About TimTim was raised in a middle class family. His dad, Gerry, is a Quality Inspector at a gear grinding company and his mom, Jane, is a waitress and cleans houses. His sister, Becky, is a businesswoman and his brother, Jeff, recently graduated from the Seminary. Tim learned the value of hard work starting at the age of 10, when he took his first job delivering newspapers. When he was 18, he enlisted in the active duty military because he wanted to serve his country and carry on his family tradition of service. While in the military, Tim graduated from community college with an A.A. degree in Avionics Systems Technology and served three deployments in the Middle East. After being honorably discharged, Tim went back to school and graduated Cum Laude with a Business Administration degree. Shortly after graduating college, Tim moved to California. Tim choose Torrance as his home because of the excellent quality of life and the "small town feel". In addition, Old Torrance reminded him of where he was born (Buffalo, NY). As it turns out, there was a good reason for this: The designer of Old Torrance, Frederick Law Olmstead, Jr., was the son of Frederick Law Olmstead, who designed much of Tim's boyhood home and many of the parks Tim played in as a child. Tim has become nationally known as a voice for veterans. He founded and presently is the Director of Iraq Veterans for Progress which empowers veterans by giving them job training and experience. Tim also volunteers his time to preserve the West Los Angeles VA for use solely by veterans and not allowing it to be leased or sold for commercial use. Tim currently works for the California Association of Professional Employees, which gives him experience in fixing many of Torrance's problems (see "Traffic" on the Issues page). Additionally, Tim is an FCC licensed radio operator and is a Disaster Services Volunteer for the City of Torrance. |
