IssuesBlending Fresh Ideas With Traditional Values For A Better Torrance
Public SafetyPublic safety needs to be a priority and as our population grows and ages, our city services need to be able to keep up with resident needs. For example, in the last 20 years, the Torrance Fire Department has responded to 68% more calls while maintaining the same level of staff. Tim supports the acquisition of needed equipment and funded personnel positions. Tim also realizes the need to keep our residents safe from gang encroachment and crime and supports the addition of two K-9 units for the Police Department. Maintaining our first rate public services not only has the obvious benefit of increased safety, but will also keep homeowner's insurance rates low.
TrafficIt’s time to get serious about traffic. It decreases our quality of life by contributing to pollution, increasing stress, and taking away from time that could be spent with our families. Fortunately, Tim has experience working with the L.A. County Traffic Management Center and will put his knowledge and experience to work to synchronize our traffic signals. Additionally, Tim supports creating a phone hotline to report potholes.
DevelopmentTim bought his first home at age 21, so he knows how important it is to maintain the character of our neighborhoods. Overdevelopment has gone on for too long in Torrance. For this reason, Tim has pledged to take no money from developers and only supports Smart Growth. Tim will also enforce the Hillside Overlay to preserve the view and neighborhood that homeowners originally purchased.
Environment
Endorsed by: Unfortunately, Torrance has never met the State mandate to reduce our solid waste stream by at least 50%. To achieve this, Tim supports expanding Torrance’s recycling program to include multi-unit residences and businesses. As a participant in the Cool Cities program, we must move to achieve our goals and reduce our environmental impact. One of the many ways to do this includes employing a financing program to eliminate the up front cost of residential solar electric panels for our residents. Tim also will work to develop partnerships with businesses who want to give back to the community and implement programs to benefit the environment.
EducationTim is proud of the Torrance Unified School District and its reputation for providing excellent education. Unfortunately, many of our schools were built at roughly the same time, so they are now in desperate need of repair. Tim supports the school bond with proper oversight and advocates clean, safe, and modern schools as an investment in our community.Click to see the TUSD report entitled “Torrance Schools: An Urgent Wake-up Call.”
VeteransAs a Veteran, Tim knows the sacrifices that have been made by those who served and are currently serving. Veterans are underrepresented at all levels of elected office and Tim is running to ensure Veterans have a voice in our local government. Tim will also work to make sure our Veterans are recognized for their service and sacrifices.
SeniorsTorrance has an aging population and we need to take provide for our Seniors. Tim will ensure there are ample opportunities for Seniors to participate in the community and preserve our current programs. Tim will also look at diversifying the Torrance Transit bus routes to make sure Seniors have access to the available transportation options in Torrance.
YouthIf we are to fix our current and future problems, we need our youth involved. Tim will work to engage our youth by volunteering his time to speak to students at the schools about civics and how it pertains to them.
Open and Accountable GovernmentThe citizens of Torrance deserve open, accountable, and ethical government. Therefore, Tim supports the addition of candidate and elected official finance reports to the City’s website so that residents can “follow the money”. Additionally, Tim pledges to create and maintain his own City Council website to keep the residents of Torrance informed. He will send out email updates to anyone who signs up in order to keep them informed of the current issues in Torrance and what he is doing to fix them. |
